Polarquest cosmic ray detector to begin new journey to the Arctic Circle.
Polarquest team meet with educators and organisers of the Sami Educational Institute.
Polarquest’s Paola Catapano, Mike Struik, Katarina Anthony and Luisa Cifarelli were invited to the Sami village of Inari to speak with teachers at the Educational Institute. This spring, a team from INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics, Italy) will bring a cosmic ray detector to Inari. There, it will take valuable measurements of cosmic rays in the Arctic circle, and provide local students with hands-on scientific experience. Institute students will take part in online lectures in advance of the detector’s arrival. The first of these will be held on 24 February 2023, with Paola Catapano and Luisa Cifarelli.
The team also took part in Inari’s prestigious SKÁBMAGOVAT Indigenous Film Festival – the “coolest” festival in the world, with screenings held in an outdoor theatre made of snow – and screened the documentary “Nanuq” about the Polarquest 2018 expedition at the Sami Educational Institute.
